Running, working out and eating my way to my next marathon!!

Weekend Update

1/27/12 – 1.5 mile in morning

2.0 mile walk/run in evening

1 hour strength/cross training

1/28/12 – 2.0 mile walk, then girls night happened 🙂

1/29/12 – 1 hour strength/cross training

So, I’ve had a lot of irritation in my right hip the last couple of days and on the 27th had the shooting pain when I ran.  Thus, an easy weekend on the running.  Still trying to get in that strength training and a lot of random stretching as I want to get in a decent mileage this week!!

Girls night was a lot of fun, and I guess that will be it for my quick Sunday update!  More to come 🙂

Beautifully Warm and Weird Pains

First off, it is super duper warm right now, and for the end of January I am super excited about this!!!! 🙂

Sooooo, since moving I started to notice a strange pain when I have been on walks.  My hip starts aching and by the end of my walks can be pretty painful.  If I wear my running shoes on my walk it seems to help, but I have no idea what started this strange pain.  The stranger part is it pretty much NEVER bothers me when I run.  Walk=ouch, Run=no ouch.  That is until my super early morning treadmill run today.  Get on treadmill (it was still dark out so inside run), warm up, turn up the speed, cue shooting pain in my hip.  Thanks for being stupid hip.  So, I only got in a mile and a half 😦 before giving in.

Well, I guess I will have to throw in some really good stretching with my workout today (I neglect stretching a lot, not a fan).

Wish me luck!!!

Yesterdays Update

Well, I didn’t get any workout time in yesterday other than a walk for an hour.  I think that is good for yesterday though since I had to go to a meeting for work and get a ton of other chores and whatnot done.  There are a million and one things to get done today but I am confident I will get in a quick run and workout!!  So far today I got in all my grocery shopping and am getting ready to head out for a little more shopping, yay!  Time to use that gift card for a new outfit!!

Have a great day!!

Long Walks and Crazy Dogs

So, my boyfriend and I go on hour long walks with the dogs at least 5 days a week, (we try to do every day but its not always possible) and so we went on our usual trek today.  Its great exercise and the dogs LOVE it!  Plus, on such a beautiful weather day who wouldn’t want to be out for a nice walk.

Well, the problem being that for about the third time in this neighborhood a random dog has run up and started attacking our dogs.  Now, our dogs are very friendly so you would think this would be unusual.  But, for some reason people in the neighborhood seem to think that it is fine for their dogs to be off-leash.  I wouldn’t mind this if their dogs came to them when they called but they don’t!  Let me tell you it is pretty scary when a random dog is attacking the dogs you are holding onto.

And to make all this even more aggravating, the owner of the dog didn’t come out of her yard to try to get the dog and when the dog finally went home to her she didn’t even bother to come see if everyone was okay.  RUDE!!  I guess my message is, put your dog on a leash unless it is very obedient to voice command!

So, now that the venting is out of the way, that adds in an hour walk to my workout regime today!

Tonight, an Indian dish for dinner, consisting of an Eggplant curry base and Mediterranean style couscous!!

Yum!!

Mid-January, 50 degrees, Run in Shorts, NBD….

Hello!  I cannot believe that it is sooo warm out today!  It is mid-January and I ran outside in shorts!  It was sunny, it was NOT cold!!!!  Oh, I wish it could be this nice every day.  If ever anyone were to ask me what my perfect running conditions are this would be it!

Stats for Today:

Run: 4.0 miles

Time: 39:03

Pace:  9:46

Holy Cow!  I ran an easy training run in under 10 min/mile pace.  Heck, I ran outside, with no treadmill to pace me in under 11 min/mile pace.  I am beyond happy about this!!  My training runs for my last half were typically around an 11 min/mile pace and 12 min/mile pace for the long runs.  That is such a huge improvement and I have only been training again for about a week and a half now!  I guess that speed work and tempo training is already starting to pay off.

Well, that is it for my workout today, it is my off day for weights and core strength and I am so happy with my run I think I will just be giddy the rest of the day!!  Woo-hoo for an outdoor run, take that crappy treadmill!!

Stacey 🙂

My First Blog Ever!!

Hello!

My name is Stacey and I am quite new to the entire concept of blogging.  I moved within the last 6 months to the DC area and decided to look online and see if I could find a running group or something I might be interested in and what did I find?  The world of blogging!

So far I have found it to be inspirational and fun to read about so I have decided to start up my own blog.  I will mostly write about my workouts, running and eating experiences and maybe throw in a few extra things from time to time.  I am new at this so it’ll probably be a bit rusty for awhile!

Hopefully, I will meet some new running and workout friends and just have fun with it!

My goals are pretty straightforward.  I have run two half marathons, and PR’d at my second one.  I plan on running a third in April or May (I haven’t picked one out yet) and my goal is to do a sub 2:00 half.  This is really exciting to me as I have thus-far been a pretty slow runner!  So, it means adding in speedwork and mileage.  After that, I want to do my first full marathon in Disney.  The reason I want to do that is because I did my first half there and it was AMAZING!!! My final goal is to loose a little of the “being lazy” weight I put on but mostly just to get back in shape and I am well on the road to that.  I thought a good goal would be to be in FBI shape.  In other words, I want to be in good enough shape that I could pass the FBI PT test.  It is tough!  Take a look here:

So, I am currently on a Jillian Michael 30 day workout plan (day 19), I am just starting up my half marathon training again (my first “long” run yesterday) and am more passively working on a sit-ups and push-ups challenge.

I guess that will be about it for now, as I am pretty sure this is the longest post ever!!!
